Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that fights bacteria. Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infection caused by bacteria, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract. Amoxicillin is also sometimes used together with another antibiotic called clarithromycin (Biaxin) to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is sometimes used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole (Prevacid). There are many brands and forms of amoxicillin available and not all brands are listed on this leaflet.

Models in the making

Models in the making

Who loves to party?!  We do! On Saturday afternoon all the girls dressed up in pretty dresses with hair looking oh so feminine while walking elegantly in “taller than a tower” high heels here at the Centre as we hosted a “girly high tea party” for the girls to feel super special with our theme being “BEAUTIFUL”.  We had ages from 9 up to 22 years and the girls just loved it as we dressed up in our finest to feel and be beautiful in who God has made us to be!

We had herbal teas all the way from New Zealand that were oozing berry flavours, pink

and purple iced biscuits and marshmallow and fruit kebabs that left us with juice running down our chins!  We had games, a quiz and over 20 prizes were being dished out like hot cakes as we were blessed with so much provided for the day!  We had a wonderful guest speaker from the community who came to share on identity and she bravely shared her testimony on her journey of overcoming breast cancer while inspiring the girls to look above their circumstances in knowing who they are in God.

Next up was a cupcake decorating competition which was perfect as we all have super sweet teeth!  With fresh cream frosting, lollies, hundreds and thousands and chocolate sprinkles to name a few, we were coloring our sweet treats like artistic bakers and the competition was high!  After much debate the winner was found to be Theresa who was beaming from ear to ear! The prize was five sets of hair braid extensions (which is never going out of fashion here) and the prize couldn’t of gone to anyone more worthy as this amazing girl gives out her time day and night (like early morning night) to do all our girls hair and makes sure they all feel beautiful!
We all had such  a wonderful time but I think the most heart touching moment was when we got to honor one of

our girls just for who she is.  Privilege is a graceful girl who has been with us for two months and has walked a very tough journey.  Last week she gave birth to her beautiful baby girl so we wanted to love on her and make her feel extra special and thought of.  We welcomed her to the front while giving a speech on how much we love her, how beautiful she is to us and gave her a special prize. While this was happening all the girls started cheering, clapping and giving big”whoop whoops” for their amazing sister!  We love it when we see the girls in unity, cheering each other on and pouring out compliments over each other!  This was a very special afternoon that God used to show his girls how much he loves them and adores every moment beaming over them!

Well done Jackie Scott for organizing this amazing day for our girls and showing them just how precious they are to us but more importantly, to Our Father.  You did an AMAZING job!!

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed!

thank-you

grateful-thankful-and-blessedOver the past years there has been many times when we have faced financial problems at the Sandra Jones Centre.   Each time we have put out a call for help we have seen God’s faithfulness through the generosity of His people.  Recently was no exception when we asked for help to pay off our huge water bill in order to get a development permit from the Bulawayo City Council to construct two classrooms on our property.  We were incredibly blessed and grateful with the donations that came through different supporters.

There was one donation in particular that came in from the Angus Family.  I have tried on several occasions to find a contact address or email for this family but have never been successful.  This is not the first time the Angus  family have helped to pull us out of a huge hole and I want to say a big thank you for your faithfulness and generosity.  You have indeed blessed us and rescued us many many times.

I am pleased to say that the development permit has been granted and we should soon be able to start building.  We will keep you updated!!

Jimboomba Quilting Queens 2016

Jimboomba Quilting Queens

On another note we are continually blessed by a group of very special ladies who call themselves the “Jimboomba Quilting Queens”.  Every year these talented ladies send us 30 hand-made quilts for all our new children.  Needless to say the children love their beautiful quilts and are often speechless when they are handed something so precious and valuable.

It hardly seems fair that these wonderful ladies put in all that work and yet we are the ones that have the privilege and pleasure of handing them out and seeing the looks on the faces of the children when they receive them.

Quilting Queens you are amazing!!!  And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

International Day of the Girl Child!

img_1957

This week we have a guest blogger giving us an insight into our new Attachment program and as it was International Day of the Girl Child, we see a different view point into the life of the Sandra Jones Centre and how we help and celebrate each child through helping them achieve their dreams.

Amanda Granger

                Amanda Granger

WELCOME Amanda! Over to you………

Hello Everyone!

Yesterday we celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child, and what better way to celebrate than to share some success stories of our girls’ in their attachments! After our graduation ceremony in September where we celebrated 6 incredible girls who completed our Vocational Training Program, we have seen many exciting opportunities for attachment ahead for each one of them, and moments of empowerment that is encouraging to us all!

Talent 's Hard Work

Talent ‘s Hard Work

Talent Watering her Garden

Talent Watering her Garden

Over the past few months, Talent has established herself as quite an entrepreneur! By connecting with a local business woman, Talent was given the opportunity to begin her own garden on a spare plot of land in the Hillside area. Putting her passion for agriculture and skills learned in the Vocational Training Program together, she diligently began cultivating a garden she could call her own. In the beginning of October, Talent was able to harvest her first bundle of chomolia and begin to interact with her first customers!

Sharon's one step closer

Sharon’s one step closer

The passion that Talent has for agriculture is equally matched by Sharon’s desire to make a living in the restaurant business. Over the past week, four of our girls have taken part in a “Professional Waiters” training course with the goal of becoming proficient in front-of-house service in the restaurant and hospitality industry. After Sharon’s first day of training she could not stop beaming as she shared her experience with many of the Aunties at the Centre. Now in her second week of attachment, Sharon continues to thrive in this environment and looks forward to the opportunities ahead!

Betty hard at work

From student to teacher, Betty completed the Vocational Training Program and began teaching other girls in the community about agriculture. She has been working with a few home-schooling students to offer the information she found useful in her education. It is amazing to see the work she is doing and how she has put her training to use in such a short time!

As we acknowledge this important day of the girl child, we are reminded of the issues such equal access to healthcare, education and basic human needs for girls everywhere. We at the Sandra Jones Centre feel very honored for the opportunity to empower these girls, and pray that they in turn have a larger impact on the greater community.

Wow, what a two weeks we have had here at Sandra Jones Centre.  So much to say in one blog but the problem is WHERE TO START FIRST!

Every year we have a great event to look forward to where we as a staff, celebrate with our Vocational Training girls in their achievements over the past year and the success of each of our Graduates who have completed their year of training.  During the service, each girl was presented with a certificate high-lighting a particular character trait they presented through out the year and received a “Jesus Calling” Devotion Book which has been kindly donated to them through a generous church who raised enough money for each girl to receive one.  Then there were awards for each girl who had excelled in the various subjects:  They were as follows:

Chicken TheoryEsther Ncube                         Chicken PracticalMelinda Matiki

Garden PracticalTalent Mkwebu                   Math – Esther Ncube

What an afternoon of celebration, singing, laughs, tea and cake!

We were joined by our great supporters of the program, The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) who help fund the program each year and we were also joined by some of the Graduates family members.  This was so special to see as they celebrate their achievements.  We even had a Granny and Great Granny come and support our Sharon as she graduated. Memories to cherish!

Here’s a few pictures of the afternoon.

Another exciting project that has started at the Centre is our extra lesson’s we have brought into for our Vocational Training Program.  The girls have been split, by choice, into 4 group lessons to which members of staff are bring their knowledge and passions to teach each lesson this term.  The groups are Craft, Catering, Hairdressing and Catering.  Each girl has gone to the subject they most wish to learn and have excelled so much in just 2 weeks.

img_8879In the craft Lessons, they are learning how to make necklaces and bracelets out of pure magazine or newspaper.  They have all already made each a necklace and love it so much they are even doing it in their free time.  One girls has already sold her necklace!

The Catering Lesson’s have proven to be very delicious indeed.  The girls have made and iced cupcakes already and did for the very first time, PIZZA!! WOW, now that was amazing to see how much they really took to the cooking and how AMAZING their pizza’s tasted.  After these Catering classes, you may be rolling the staff out of the Centre with the girls delicious food. These 4 talented girls are also about to start a img_8880months course to teach them all about Hospitality.  The excitement on their face when we told them cannot be captured through words and can’t wait to see what they are taught as they each grow closer to their dream.  One girl in particular dreams of being a chef and owning her own restaurant. Dreams do come true.  (2 girls have been so kindly sponsored to do the course already but if anyone would like to sponsor one of the other 2 girls to go on the course, please contact us. Both us and them would be truly thankful to you all)

img_8899The Sewing Lesson’s are seeing the girls creating the most beautiful mats made purely of scrap material.  These girls have show such enthusiasm and skill in making these carpets.

The Hairdressing came from the opportunity of one of our old girl, whoimg_8898 is now a great hairdresser in her own right, wanting to come and teach our girls how to do hair.  As you can see from the pictures, they are really doing well and it’s a lot harder than it looks.  I so wish I could be as skilled as them.

All the products made a created by our girls will be going on sale at various markets we will be attending as well as possibly making a grand appearance overseas in the near future….. WATCH THIS SPACE!

So as you can see, so much happening at the Centre that we are all so excited and can’t wait to see where the next few months leading up to Christmas will take us.

View from the other side!

This week we have our guest blogger, Teah Goossen who is sharing a view of her first few weeks at the Centre:

Teah's Zimbabwe Experience

                          Teah’s Zimbabwe Experience

It’s hard to describe the Sandra Jones Centre. Simply put, it is a crisis centre. Yet, it’s impossible to see it as only that. On my first evening, as I was going dishes with one of the teenage mothers, she told me her story of rape and abuse. She than looked at her child, than back at me and said, “It was so hard back then. He’s in jail now, but, Aunty Teah, I’ve forgiven him”. That night, as I crawled into bed, I couldn’t help but weep. How? I asked myself. How can there be so much joy and forgiveness after such terrible abuse? I’ve been here a few weeks now, and I have heard many stories just like that one, where darkness does not prevail. I think I’m beginning to understand why. We have a history, but we are not our past. Now, every time I see this cheerful, courageous lady, I am reminded of what Christ has done. He has given us impossible forgiveness. He has turned our mourning into dancing.

The Sandra Jones Centre is a crisis centre. These children and teenagers have come from insufferably abuse, trauma, and heartache. Yet, that’s just the beginning of the story. The Sandra Jones Centre is the start of a new chapter; a better, more hopeful chapter. One where good wins; a safe place where all those who enter find love. Here begins a story of grace, forgiveness, transformation, joy, respect, responsibility, love and hope. It is a story that I am excited to see and be a part of.

Looking forward and behind!

Good day to you all! Can we start by saying a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have been standing with us over the past few weeks after our tragic loss.  We truly appreciate all of your prayers and support and really felt comforted knowing we all weren’t alone.  Our little Solider, Terrance, was laid to rest on Monday last week at his home town, Luveve with some family members and his SJC family around him.

Before all this hit us, we were just about to write about a few details of excitement that we had experienced so, like the title says we look forward but lets go back a few weeks to think of some happy and positive news surrounding us.

Our Graduate

Our Graduate

Thursday 25th August 2016 saw a great achievement from one of our previous girls at the Centre and what a success story it is.  Our beautiful, Senzo who was with us quite a few years back, is now a fully qualified Teacher.  She graduated from Teacher Training College and with much excitement she is going into a brighter future where she is able to impact so many other children.  We are so proud of our girl!

Over the holidays we had a great Camp feast here at the Sandra Jones Centre.  We were able to get ………. girls sponsored to attend a camp with one of the local churches.  They absolutely loved it! They had great fun and learnt so much from the teachings, whilst making some good friends in the mean time. One girl is quoted to say that they had “really good experience where they learnt about their relationship with God and how that is the most important relationship.” The weekend

Healing with Horses Camp

before that, a few of our kids got the great opportunity to attend Horse Riding Camp with the Healing with Horses Therapeutic Centre.  They had a truly amazing experience.

Graces Baptism & Confirmation

Graces Baptism & Confirmation

We then ended the week with a great Celebration of our special girl, Grace, being Baptized and then Confirmed in her church.  What a week of celebration and moments to be proud of.  More importantly, what a great group of kids we have hear at the Sandra Jones Centre.

The Sandra Jones Centre also want to take this opportunity to welcome our new SALTER from the Mennonite Central Committee Program (MCC), Teah Goossen.  She will be with us for a year serving the Centre in various ways. Welcome Teah, we hope you have a great year with us! (Go to our Volunteer page to meet all our Volunteers).

What a week….

To start off, we are so sorry for no blog last week but as most of you may already know, it was a very tough week for us all.  We had a great blog planned with a prayer request at the end but then sadly things took a turn for the worst.

If you have been following the past 2 weeks of our Facebook posts, you may well know what has been going on but for those who haven’t seen them.  Here’s our week in a few words….

We had one of our 3 year old’s, Terrance, admitted to hospital about 2 weeks ago with a high temperature and a sore throat.  He was prescribed some antibiotics and sent home again. A few days later, he was admitted back into hospital with a terrible allergic reaction and rash that had him in uncontrollable tears.  Over 2 days, his blisters started to burst and his skin over his whole body started to peel off.  This pain was uncontrollable and eventually they were able to cover his raw skin with bandages.  On Wednesday last week, they were wanting to take him into theater to remove the rest of his skin and bandage him but we were not able to find the bandages straight away.  Sadly, that night at 9:30 we received a prayer update for Terrance whose body had gone very cold and then at 10:30 the dreaded message came that he had gone to be with the Lord.  When reading that message, I couldn’t believe it.  I kept reading it over and over again, hoping the words would change or the meaning would change.  The shock of it all hit the Centre like a ton of bricks.  We couldn’t believe it.

"Our little Solider"

“Our little Solider”

The final diagnosis of his passing was that he had Steven Johnson Syndrome which in most cases, people come through it but sadly Terrance was so sever his little body and heart couldn’t cope with the pain anymore.  His body was taken to his families home town and was laid to rest surrounded by those who loved him so dearly.  Thank you to all of you who prayed with us through this time and for all your encouraging support and prayers.  Here are some pictures to remind us all of our handsome little solider who learnt to smile and then never stopped whilst always bringing a smile to us all.

Blessings all around!

As many of you know, The Sandra Jones Centre runs purely on donations and those come from amazing source most of the time.  We had a special visit a few weeks ago from a school in Gweru, Zimbabwe called Guinea Fowl

Guniea Fowl High School

High School.  These young people had done various fundraisers like a car wash etc, to help raise money to buy us a 1.5 kw generator and they had all got their tuck that their parents give them each term and pooled it together to give to the children at the Sandra Jones Centre.  What an amazing gift.  We were all so overwhelmed with wonderful gesture.  Thank you Guinea Fowl High School.

We have also had a great amount of items donated over the past few weeks; Towels, Delicious Biscuits, Clothing, Shoes and heaps of food items.  We have been overwhelmed with all the local support we have been getting and truly appreciate all of you who generously and kindly support us both near and far.  We cannot do what we do without you!

On a sad note, two of our staff members lost a family member each last week.  Jacqui’s brother-in-law was take early last week to be with the Lord and Yussif lost his mother suddenly on Thursday when she too went to be with the Lord.  It was a tough week for the Sandra Jones Family as we stand with them.  We would really appreciate your prayers for them both during this time.

We’re Back!!

Hello to all our valued supporters, family and friends.  We have a HUGE apology to make about not keeping our blogs going over the past year.  We are so sorry for this.  It has just been due to trying to get our website up and running and getting our heads around it.  We do hope you all enjoy the new website and we promise from this day forward, you will be seeing a lot more of us and a lot more updates.  :-)

Progress & Michelle

Progress & Michelle

Over the past few weeks we have had such excitement here at the Centre as we celebrate the arrival of a new baby girl, Michelle.  Her mother, Progress and Michelle are both doing so well and I’m sure you can see for yourself, that she is a beautiful baby.  However, it was a surprise for Progress when she held Michelle in her arms for the first time.  You see the doctors told her throughout her pregnancy that she was having a boy. Though, Progress couldn’t have been more happy to hold her little girl in her arms and there for gave her the best name out…. Michelle (gift from God)! Bet you can’t tell who’s write this blog can you! 😉

After a few years break, due to various reason, we have brought back the KIDZ KAN Abuse Prevention Program into schools.  The past 3 months we have been into 3 different schools and it has proven successful as usual.  Here are a few pic’s of some of the team doing the Pantomime for the Infant Grades.

We are also so excited to let you all know about the new program connected with our Vocational Training Centre.  Officially, as of September we will be adding an Attachment Program to our Curriculum whereby each girl who finishes the course with us will have to opportunity to purse, within reason, their ideal job or be placed in a job whereby they can work towards their goal.  However, this has been going on for a few months already as we have 4 of our girls who have been placed in very good jobs.  Two of our girls, with the possibility of a few more joining them, have got the opportunity to study Beauty Therapy, whilst working at a local Beauty Spa.  They are both enjoying it and have been given great opportunities already.  They have learnt so many therapies as well being given the chance to work at the Victoria Falls Branch too. Here’s our girls at work! Did we mention that they need models to practice on and guess who gets to enjoy that job…….. The whole SJC staff get pampered!

Busy Week!!

Christmas Market

Christmas Market

What an exciting and busy week we have had this past week. As Christmas draws close, our weeks get busier and excitement fills the Centre. It all started on Sunday when we set off at 7am to set up our Christmas stall at the first of 2 of our Christmas Markets. We were then joined by our choir who sang for the crowds at lunch time. Many of the items we were selling on our stall were items we have been teaching our girls how to make so as to give them another skill to take away with.

On Wednesday, we joined The Southern Equestrian Centre in Celebrating their “Healing with Horses Therapeutic Centre” Opening! This is the Centre where our children have been receiving riding lessons and through this have really grown in confidence within themselves. Here at the Centre, we have seen great changes in our kids who attend since they started 2 years ago. It was such a great morning celebrating with them alongside King George VI (a very special dedicated school who work with children with various physical and mental challenges). We are so proud to be a part of this project for the development of our children. If you wish to know more about their amazing work, please go to http://healingwithhorseszimbabwe.com/

Thursday brought our little ones, our young mom’s and their babies, such a beautiful

surprise. We had a nursery school, Busy Beez Nursery School, bring boxes of gifts for each of our little kids and the babies as well as some clothes for our young mom’s. This gesture was so beautiful and so important as they were teaching their children that, especially this time of year, that there are children and people out in the world who don’t have a lot and that we all need to remember the true meaning of Christmas! As you can imagine, our kids absolutely loved it.

On Friday, we then had our Grade 0’s Graduation Day. What a day! Such great celebrations and seeing our little’s faces and achievements. Take a look for yourselves!
